Oven French Toast

Three minutes work the night before, pop in the oven before your shower, hot French toast ready to go!

Follow this link for the recipe:
Oven French toast

• 8 slices whole wheat bread
• 1 cup milk
• ½ tsp salt
• 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
• 1 T sugar (optional)
• 1 tsp vanilla (optional)
• 4 eggs

Night before:
Lay bread in a single layer on a rimmed cookie sheet
Beat remaining ingredients together, pour over bread, lifting each to make sure both sides are covered.  Cover cookie sheet and put in the refrigerator
Set oven to come on at 475  degrees the following morning.
Next morning:
Move bread slices carefully to greased cookie sheet, or use parchment to line the cookie sheet, or use a silpat*
Bake for 10 – 12 minutes, or until browned.  Serve with syrup or with butter and sugar..

NOTES:
  • Experiment with various spices;  pumpkin pie spice or nutmeg in place of cinnamon is great.  Or try almond, maple, or orange extract in place of the vanilla.  And if you add a couple of tablespoons of sugar, no syrup is necessary, just butter.

*Silpat is a silicone lining for a pan, and NOTHING sticks to it.  Toss them in the dishwasher and reuse often.  I have a couple for each size of cookie sheet – full sheet and half sheet, and use them all the time.
